Newcomers of Great Falls, Ltd. was
founded in January 1982 with 47 members. Within a month, the
organizational structure was developed,
“Newcomers” was incorporated as an independent, non-profit organization,
the first newsletter was mailed, and activities were underway.
Concern for the community at large was then, and remains, the main
priority....”to establish an....atmosphere in which newcomers to
Great Falls can meet others.....create friendships......provide social
and educational activities (and)....provide service and donations to
charitable organizations”.
-
By 1984, membership had risen to over
150. In addition to varied social, community,
and philanthropic activities, Newcomers donated the living Christmas
tree on the Village Green and began the
tradition of the annual tree lighting ceremony in Great Falls.
-
Within five years, Newcomers boasted over 180 members and expanded its focus to include the
growing number of young families moving to our town. “Moms & Tots” and
“Ladies Night Out” were formed, and a greater effort to involve spouses
was made through the introduction of “Wine & Cheese” evenings,
Supper Club and the
annual Holiday Gala.
-
1990 saw the launch of many new
activity groups aimed at meeting the interests of this increasingly
varied membership: cooking groups, antiques group, and cultural tours
were introduced along with the custom of collecting needed items at the
Club’s monthly luncheons for the Embry Rucker Shelter.
-
Our 10th Anniversary Year in
1992 was a celebration of the club’s accomplishments and future possibilities. The focus was on community awareness and
participation in a wide variety of volunteer opportunities.
Newcomers became particularly active in local events by sponsoring
the “Haunted House” at the annual Halloween Festival and helping with the July 4th Hometown Celebration, sponsored by
Great Falls Friends. In addition, Newcomers
lent support to the Children’s Spring Festival sponsored by the Great
Falls Optimists.
-
Today, approximately 200 members enjoy a wide
variety of social, athletic, charitable, and cultural activities available in
the area.
Newcomers' continuing tradition of providing a warm and friendly welcome
to those old & new to Great Falls has made it an active, respected and
integral part of the community.

Falls is proud to have contributed financial support to the following
